Hi, my name is Don Freeman and I would like to take a minute to let you know who is working for you as your mortgage broker and what I bring to the table.
My past experience has come from a number of different areas, everything from selling R.V.’s and manufactured homes in my early and mid 20’s, to owning a party promotion business, an art store and an adventure company. As time has gone on one of my biggest hurdles was dealing with our banking system and the mystery behind why and how they make their decisions. As you know they either love you or hate you and even when they love you, you have to be careful that you are getting the best deal for you and not the best deal for the bank. When they hate you there is rarely a good explanation of where things are going wrong and even rarer is the advice on how to fix it.
After being self employed for a number of years I decided I wanted to try something completely different and wanted to do something where I could help people and make a living doing it. It was on that note that I applied at CIBC and started my banking experience. As they say, if you can’t beat them join them.
Working for CIBC I was promoted fairly quickly as I was strong at building relationships with clients, problem solving and growing business in positions they had been previously having trouble with. I had worked my way up to Business Advisor, a position where I had a portfolio of only self employed people. I then realized I wanted to expand my experience and education to the credit union side of things to see what the differences where and how they were set up as opposed to the bank. Envision Credit Union was anxious to bring me on board.
I worked at Envision as a Personal Account Manager working on mortgages and loans and spent enough time there to take their commercial lending and mortgage courses. Through doing this I then realized that what I really wanted to do was become a broker. I wanted the freedom to help people as much as possible and I wanted the options that would come with that freedom. Now if one bank doesn’t like the mortgage I’m working on I have a vast amount of other banks and mortgage companies I can approach. These other banks and mortgage companies may have different guidelines because as many of us know, every bank has its own set of rules.
I am now on my fifth year of brokering with over 7 years of mortgage experience and I have never looked back! Due to my past experiences I now come with the internal knowledge of the banks and credit unions and the flexibility and understanding of how to make even the hardest deals make sense. Not to mention in most cases, the exception being private mortgages, I am a FREE service. The bank pays me! Not only that, but I am paid on the volume and the amount of the mortgage, not on the interest rate. Because of this, I am always looking for the BEST products and interest rates to suit your needs.

After enjoying a career in the ballroom dance business in both Canada and the U.S., I settled back into British Columbia, Canada, and then got my administrative business degree. I then joined Remax in 1987 in the Kelowna area, and enjoyed 13 years as a very active real estate agent.
I enjoyed that career immensely; but found that the one part of the entire real estate process that was very often the most stressful to the clients was "the financing stage". This was the #1 determinant of success or failure in most cases. So in 1998 I decided to specialize in that area of the real estate, and became a mortgage broker.
I now work to assist clients in getting through that sometimes stressful and sometimes very difficult part of the process of buying a home - the financing. One of the things that I like best about being a mortgage broker is that my success is directly related to the successful outcome achieved for my clients. That is a great motivator, and leads to a "win-win" outcome.
